The United Church of Christ (UCC)'s 2025 General Synod meeting was held in Kansas City, Missouri, USA, from Thursday, 10th July 2025 to Wednesday, 16th July 2025. This General Synod, typically held once every three years, brought together around 4,500 participants, including church representatives, officials, clergy, and guests from 36 of the 50 U.S. states.
The event officially commenced with a meaningful opening worship service led by the Rev. Dr. Karen Georgia Thompson, President of the UCC. During the sessions, significant resolutions were passed, including calls for: an end to the war by Israel against Palestine, the government of India to cease persecution of religious minorities, and an end to the repression of minority groups in the Philippines.
The meetings were held daily from 8:00 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. over the seven-day period and were moderated by the Rev. Roshan Sinnathurai, son of Mr. and Mrs. Sinnathurai—faithful members of our Tellippalai Church. A notable moment was the election of Rev. Dr. Shari Prestemon, Co-Executive of Global Ministries, as the next President of the UCC. This achievement is a proud moment for our church and wider community.
Another highlight was the participation of our Chairperson, Rev. A.S. Thevagunanathan, who attended the gathering alongside seven other international delegates: Rev. George Lungay (Philippines), Rev. M. M. Jackey (Indonesia), Rev. Prof. Pablo (Colombia), Rev. Ms. Mayadah Tarazi (Palestine), Rev. Ms. Ute Hedrich (Germany), Rev. Kudzani (South Africa) and Bishop Rt. Rev. Dr. Frank Kopania (Germany)
கிறிஸ்துவுக்குள் ஒன்றுபட்ட திருச்சபையினுடைய செனற் மகாசபையின் கூட்டத்தொடர் இவ்வருடம் (2025) அமெரிக்க ஐக்கிய நாட்டினுடைய மிசூரி மாநிலத்தின் கென்சஸ் நகரத்தில் 10.07.2025 வியாழக்கிழமை தொடக்கம் 16.07.2025 புதன்கிழமை வரை மிகச் சிறப்பாக நடைபெற்றது. இக்கூட்டத்தொடரானது மூன்று வருடங்களுக்கு ஒரு தடவை நடைபெறுவது வழமை. அமெரிக்க ஐக்கிய நாட்டில் உள்ள 50 மாகாணங்களில் 36 மாகாணங்களில் உள்ள குருமார், சபைப் பிரதிநிதிகள், அலுவலர்கள் பங்களித்துவ திருச்சபைத் தலைவர்கள், விருந்தினர்கள் உள்ளடங்கலாக ஏறத்தாழ 4500 பேர் இக்கூட்டத்தில் கலந்து கொண்டிருந்தனர்.
ஆறு வருடங்கள் UCC இன் தலைவராக விளங்கிய அருட்கலாநிதி. கரன் ஜோர்ஜியா தொம்சன் அவர்களுடைய தலைமைத்துவத்துடனும் ஆரம்ப வழிபாட்டுடனும் கூட்டத் தொடர் ஆரம்பமானது. இவரைத் தொடர்ந்து திருச்சபையின் தலைமைத்துவத்துக்கு அருட்கலாநிதி. செரி பிறிஸ்மன் அவர்கள் தெரிவு செய்யப்பட்டார். இக்கூட்டத்தில் பாலஸ்தீனத்துக்கு எதிரான போரை இஸ்ரேல் நிறுத்த வேண்டும் என்பதற்காகவும், இந்தியாவில் சிறுபான்மை சமயங்களுக்கெதிரான அடக்குமுறையினை இந்திய அரசு முடிவுக்குக் கொண்டு வரவேண்டும் என்பதற்காகவும் பிலிப்பின்ஸ் நாட்டில் சிறுபான்மையினருக்கு எதிரான அடக்குமுறைகள் நிறுத்தப்பட வேண்டும் என்பதற்காகவும் பிரேரணைகள் நிறைவேற்றப்பட்டன.
ஏழு நாட்கள் காலை 8.00 மணி தொடக்கம் மாலை 7.30 மணி வரை நடைபெற்ற இக்கூட்டங்களுக்கு எமது தெல்லிப்பளைத் திருச்சபையினை பூர்வீக அங்கத்தவர்களான திரு. திருமதி. சின்னத்துரை அவர்களுடைய மகன் அருட்கலாநிதி. றொசான் சின்னத்துரை அவர்கள் தலைமை தாங்கினார். இது எமது திருச்சபைக்கும் அனைத்து மக்களுக்கும் பெருமை தரும் விடயமாகும்.
இந்த மகாசபைக் கூட்டங்களில் அமெரிக்கன் சிலோன் மிசன் திருச்சபையினுடைய தலைவர் அருட்பணி. A. S. தேவகுணானந்தன் அவர்களும் கலந்து கொண்டார். அவருடன் UCC யினுடைய உலகளாவிய பங்காளித்துவத் திருச்சபைகளினுடைய தலைவர்களாக இந்தோனேசியாவைச் சேர்ந்த எம். எம். ஜாக்கி, பிலிப்பீன்ஸ் நாட்டினைச் சேர்ந்த ஜார்ஜ் லுங்கே , பலஸ்தீனாவைச் சேர்ந்த மயாடா டறாசி, கொலம்பியாவைச் சேர்ந்த பப்லோ, ஜெர்மனியைச் சேர்ந்த பேராயர் பிராங் கொப்பனியா மற்றும் ஊட்டே ஹெட்ரிச், தென்னாபிரிக்க நாட்டினைச் சேர்ந்த குட்சாணி ஆகியோரும் கலந்து கொண்டனர் என்பது சிறப்பம்சமாகும்.
