About Morning Star

“The Morning Star” is the first Tamil newspaper called “Uthayatharakai” in Sri Lanka and the second Tamil newspaper in the world which was published in 1841 at Manipay, Jaffna. Even though it is a religious newspaper, it carries news of education, science, agriculture, sports etc. Mr. Henry Martin was the first English editor and Mr. Saith Baisan was the first Tamil editor and also, they served for a long time. The American Ceylon Mission Press which was operated by the American Missionaries in Tellipallai, Manipay and Vaddukoddai published this morning star on every Fridays and distributed in the Tamil regions in Sri Lanka and also in Tamil Nadu in India.
