As you all know, Sri Lanka continues to be in the middle of its worst economic crisis. Though there is much talk of stabilization
and long-term visions the reality is that this crisis continues to have a devastating impact on the most vulnerable in our country.
Various estimates show that close to 17% of the country is food insecure. Larger numbers in the country are reducing their food intake and,
in several districts, alarmingly high percentages of children aged 3-5 are at risk of severe malnutrition.
We are facing severe harm that will devastate a generation of poor children unless we act.
The Diaconal Ministry of CACM has since the end of war supported over 1,000 children aged 3-5 with nutritional feeding and early childhood education for close to
two decades from the late years of the war until now. This support is provided through a network of over 30 pre-schools which are in the Jaffna,
Kilinochchi, Mullaitivu, Vavuniya, Mannar, Batticaloa and Nuwara Eliya Districts. In Sri Lanka as there is no national pre-school system these centers
provide critical preparation for schooling for children from poor and war affected communities, including ones that were historically marginalized
on the grounds of caste throughout the North,
East and also in the Up Country.
We are asking you to partner with us in working to support vulnerable children in the North, East and Up Country. We are appealing to interested individuals and organizations and churches to help us meet this vital need.
The support we need is around US$300 for a child per year and from which children will receive a meal and a nutritional snack per school day and will also be provided with early childhood learning so that they do not enter school already behind in their schooling.
Funds can be sent to us in Sri Lanka or to partner organizations in the US and the UK.

முன்பள்ளிகள் மற்றும் பகல்நேர பராமரிப்பு மையங்கள்
நாங்கள் யாவரும் அறிந்த நிலையில், நாம் வாழ்ந்து கொண்டிருக்கும் இலங்கை எனும் குடாநாடு,
தற்போது மிகவும் மோசமான பொருளாதார நெருக்கடி என்ற நிலைமைக்குள் சென்று கொண்டிருக்கின்றது.
இந்த நெருக்கடியான நிலைமை விளிம்பு நிலையில் வாழும் மக்களுக்கு மிகவும் பாரதூரமான விளைவுகளை நாளாந்தம் ஏற்படுத்திக்கொண்டிருக்கின்றது.
அதாவது இலங்கையில் வாழுகின்ற 17 வீதமான மக்கள் உணவின்மை பிரச்சனைக்கு உள்ளாகிக் கொண்டு இருக்கின்றனர் என்ற நிலையை,
எமக்கு கிடைத்த வேறுபட்ட தரவுகள் மற்றும் புள்ளிவிபரங்கள் தெளிவான படம் பிடித்துக் காட்டுகின்றது.
இந்த நிலைமையின் காரணமாக பெரும்பாலான எண்ணிக்கையிலான மக்கள் தாங்கள் உட்கொள்ளும் உணவின் அளவுகளை குறைத்துக்கொள்வதோடு,
3-5 வயதிக்குட்பட்ட சிறுவர்கள் போசாக்கான உணவினைப் பெற்றுக்கொள்வதற்கு நாளாந்தம் சிரமமப் பட்டுக்கொண்டிருக்கின்றனர்.
எமது நாட்டில், இதுவரைக்கும் கண்டிருக்காத ஏழை சிறுவர்களை, இந்த நெருக்கடி நிலைமை உருவாக்கும் நிலைமைக்கு நாங்கள் தள்ளப்ட்டிருப்பதோடு,
அதனை சந்திக்கும் நிலைக்கு நாங்கள் முகம் கொடுத்துக்கொண்டிருக்கின்றோம்.

இன்று யாழ்ப்பாணம், கிளிநொச்சி, முல்லைத்தீவு, வவனியா, மன்னார், மட்டக்களப்பு, மற்றும் நுவரெலியாவில் 30ற்கும் மேற்பட்ட முன்பள்ளிகள் உருவாகி,
சிறுவர்களின் உடல், உள மற்றும் சமூக நலன் விருத்திகளை வளப்படுத்தி, அவர்களை சிறந்த பிள்ளைகளாக உருவாக்குவதற்கு,
அடித்தளமிட்டு பல பணிகளை இவர்கள் மத்தியில் செய்து வருகின்றது. எமது நாட்டில், தேசிய ரீதியிலான பாடத்திட்டங்கள்,
முன்பள்ளிகளுக்கு இல்லாத நிலையிலும், எமது முன்பள்ளிகள் பிள்ளைகளின் தேவைக்கேற்ற மற்றும் பிள்ளைகளும் வாழும் சூழலிற்கு ஏற்ப,
பாடத்திட்டங்களை உருவாக்கி, இந்த பிள்ளைகளுக்கு வழங்கி வருகின்றது. இந்த திட்ட்களில் குறிப்பாக, ஏழைகள் மற்றும் யுத்தத்தால் பாதிக்கபட்ட சமூகம்,
அத்தோடு சாதிய ரீதியாக ஒடுக்கபட்டு வாழுகின்ற மக்கள் மற்றும் மலைநாட்டு மக்கள் போன்றோர் பயன்பெறுகின்றனர்.
